Namco Sells SoulCalibur Film Rights

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Namco’s SoulCalibur may soon be coming to the big screen. American Pie franchise producer Warren Zide and his Sony-based production shingle, Anthem Pictures, picked up film rights to the popular fighting game, which recently spawned a hit sequel.

The video game pits two warriors against evil enemies in a bid to retrieve a powerful sword that can open the gates of hell and destroy the world. SoulCalibur 2 has sold 5 million units and was named Best Fighting Game at last year’s E3.

The film version will be produced by Matthew Rhodes and Noel Vega, with Jesse Warshal overseeing at Anthem.
