Beowulf to Get Wider 3D Release

In addition to its previously announced IMAX 3D release, Paramount Pictures’ Beowulf will be made available in select theaters equipped with Dolby 3D Digital Cinema technology, which was recently introduced at ShoWest 2007 in Las Vegas. The epic performance-capture CG movie will debut in both 3D venues and conventional theaters across North America on November 16.

“The popularity of the 3D format is changing the film industry landscape,” says Tim Partridge, exec VP of products and technology for Dolby Laboratories. “Dolby 3D enhances the cinema experience for moviegoers and makes it easy and cost-effective for exhibitors to offer a high-quality 3D presentation in their theatres.’

Dolby 3D Digital Cinema is designed to provide exhibitors and distributors with an efficient and cost-effective 3D solution that works with standard white screens. The setup also offers a unique color filter technology that provides realistic color reproduction with extremely sharp images. Beowulf is in production at Sony Pictures Imageworks using the company’s patented Imagemotion performance capture system. Attendees of this week’s SIGGRAPH is San Diego can catch a special sneak preview of the movie as part of the Computer Animation Festival’s Electronic Theater.
