Nickelodeon is loading up a week’s worth of new installments of the animated series Danny Phantom to pave the way for the debut of Phantom Planet, a one-hour movie from creator Butch Hartman (The Fairly OddParents). Super teen Danny Fenton (voiced by David Kaufman) faces his biggest challenge yet in the special, which premieres on Nickelodeon on Friday, Aug. 24 at 8 p.m. (ET/PT).
In Phantom Planet, Danny defeats Plasmius in an outer space battle, prompting him to exact revenge by creating Masters’ Blasters’a team of hip ghost fighters whose amazing prowess renders Danny Phantom unnecessary. Danny becomes even more powerless when the Fenton Portal is partially dismantled and his phantom abilities begin to slip away at a time when they’re most needed. Vlad’s earlier antics in space have accidentally dislodged a giant asteroid which is set to collide with Earth unless the people of the world pay Vlad billions of dollars and appoint him their supreme ruler.
The new episodes will begin airing on Monday, Aug. 20 at 4 p.m. with ‘Eye for an Eye,’ which sees Danny’s and Vlad’s childish game of revenge spin out of control when Vlad runs for mayor of Amity Park and wins in a landslide, giving him the power to make life as miserable as possible for Danny and his friends. Other installments debuting during the week include ‘Boxed Up Fury,’ in which the Box Ghost sneaks into a forbidden area of the Ghost Zone to steal the mythical Pandora’s box, and ‘Frightmare,’ which finds Amity Park conquered by Nocturn, the ghost of sleep. Danny, Sam and Tucker got to camp and battle ghost monsters in ‘Claw of the Wild,’ while ‘D-Stabilized’ marks the return of Danielle Phantom, who is captured by Valerie when Vlad tricks her into thinking the ghost girl is evil.
Danny Phantom is produced at the Nickelodeon Animation Studios in Burbank, Calif. Creator/exec producer Hartman wrote and directed episodes of Dexter’s Laboratory, Cow & Chicken and Johnny Bravo before creating The Fairly OddParents as part of Nickelodeon’s Oh Yeah! Cartoons!
