Basic cable channel ABC Family tonight debuts Slacker Cats, its first foray into original animation. The half-hour comedy about lazy domesticated felines (is there any other kind?) marks the American television debut of Kevin Cecil and Andy Riley, the BAFTA Award-winning creators of the British sci-fi comedy series Hyperdrive. Aimed at a more grown-up audience, Slacker Cats premieres at 10 p.m./9 p.m. central.
Slacker Cats revolves around two freeloading house cats, Buckley and Eddie, who slack their way through various unimpressive adventures in the town of Wendell. Animated at Burbank-based studio, Film Roman, the show presents a universe where animals and humans talk to each other and nobody finds it strange. Lending their voices to the series are popular stand-up comics Harland Williams, Sinbad and Emo Philips, as well as Alex Borstein (Family Guy), Kiersten Warren (Desperate Housewives), Nicole Sullivan (Mad TV) and Niecy Nash (Reno 911!).
Cecil’s and Riley’s first series, Hyperdrive, starred Nick Frost (Hut Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) and followed the futuristic misadventures of a rag-tag spaceship crew on a mission to convince alien governments to relocate their businesses to Britain.
Character profiles, games and more can be found at the official Slacker Cats website at http://a51.abcfamily.go.com/shows/slackercats/Home/index.html.
