TV Faves Old and New on DVD

Vintage cartoon capers make their way to retail with today’s debut of Dangermouse: The Complete Series. The nine-disc set is joined by the fourth and final season of the modern classic Samurai Jack and episode collections from current hits Legion of Super Heroes, Growing Up Creepie, Tutenstein and The Ugly Duckling and Me.

Dangermouse: The Complete Series offers all 89 episodes of the classic British spy spoof produced by Cosgrove Hall Prods. The show follows the adventures of the world’s smallest spy and his slightly smaller sidekick, Penfold. Extras include the never-aired pilot episode, along with character descriptions and a theme song karaoke feature. Fans can pick up the A&E Home Entertainment release for the suggested retail price of $89.95.

Samurai Jack Season 4 includes episodes 40 through 52 of the beloved series created by Genndy Tartakovsky. The show aired on Cartoon Network from 2001 to 2004 and went out on a high note by winning the Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program in 2004. This 2-disc set carries a suggested retail price of $29.98.

Legion of Super Heroes: Volume 1 offers four episodes of the Kids’ WB! series, which returns for a second season on Sept. 22. Based on characters from D.C. Comics, the series has a group of futuristic caped crusaders going back in time to recruit the greatest hero of all, Superman, to join in their fight against evil in the 31st Century. The only bonus feature listed is a featurette titled We Are Legion: From Comic Book Origins to Animated Series Stars. The Warner Home Video release lists for $14.97.

The first volume of Growing Up Creepie to hit DVD offers six 11-minute episodes of the Mike Young/Discovery Kids animated series about a young girl raised by insects. The disc comes with a trivia game and lists for $14.95.

Also from Genius Products and Discovery Kids comes Porchlight Ent.’s Tutenstein Vol. 3 with four 22-minute episodes of the animated series about a 10-year-old boy mummy who comes back to life in the 21st century. Extras include a bonus episode, a game titled Levels of the Underworld and trading cards. Fans can own the Genius Products release for $14.95 or less.

The Ugly Duckling and Me: School Days is a collection of three episodes of the Magma/A. Film/Futurikon CG series about a not-so-pretty duckling who is adopted by a city rat. The Allumination FilmWorks release is available for $14.98.
