For fans who want to know what’s in store for the new seasons of Warner Bros. Animation’s The Batman and Legion of Super Heroes, we’ve got the scoop on plotlines, as well as some first images from the two-part season opener of The Batman.
In the new season of Legion of Super Heroes, Future Superman arrives to recruit the Legion to travel to the 41st century to help defeat classic DC Comics baddie Imperiex (voiced by Phil Morris), a destroyer of galaxies. Imperiex ends up turning the tables on the gang, traveling back to the 31st century to crush the Legion’s headquarters and free all of the group’s deadliest enemies, creating an army of super villains.
Warneer Bros. says season two will focus largely on the two Supermans (both voiced by Yuri Lowenthal) and their attempts to end the reign of terror brought on by Imperiex. Classic Superman, who spent much of the last season developing his skills, has returned from the 21st century with greater physical prowess and a better grip on his powers. Future Superman is a clone containing alien DNA. Joining the team this round is Chameleon Boy, a intriguing new character voiced by Alex Polinsky of Charles in Charge fame.
When we left Batman, Martian Manhunter had just proposed the Dark Knight join the ranks of the Justice League. Over the course of the new season, several key Justice League key players, including Green Lantern, The Flash, Green Arrow, Hawkman and Martain Manhunter, will stand with Batman in defense of Gotham City and other locales. Baman will also continue to embrace the contributions of Robin and Batgirl, as well as occasional help from Lucius Fox and Nightwing.
On the gadget side, the 2007-08 campaign will see a lot of use for Batman’s ‘Shadow-Tek’ as well as an all-new Batarang, jet packs and a new criminal assault suit. These tools will be employed in battle against the Joker, Penguin, Harley Quinn and Mr. Freeze, and also Sinestro, Black Mask, Scarface, Count Vertigo, Toyman, Mirror Master, Metallo, Clayface, Mercy and a new, improved Firefly-turned-Phosphorus. Lex Luthor even makes an appearance as he enlists Poison Ivy to turn Superman against Batman.
Among the actors lending their voices to key roles in the new Batman episodes are Louis Gossett Jr. (An Officer and a Gentleman), Daryl Sabara (Spy Kids) and Dorian Harewood (Full Metal Jacket). Other voices will be provided by the likes of Dana Delaney (China Beach), Clancy Brown (Carnivale), James Remar (Dexter), Miguel Ferrer (Crossing Jordan), Gwendoline Yeo (Desperate Housewives), Jerry O’Connell (Crossing Jordan), Peter MacNichol (24), John Laroquette (Night Court), Patton Oswalt (Ratatouille), Diedrich Bader (The Drew Carey Show) and Chris Hardwick (Back At The Barnyard).
