Lovers of classic clay animation can now pick up Gumby Essentials, a collection of some of the best episodes of the enduring 1950s creation. The green, bendable one shares the spotlight with Scooby-Doo and some Disney Princesses in new animated movies, while episodes of Robot Chicken, SpongeBob SquarePants and Garfield make their way to retail.
Gumby Essentials offers installments from the ’50s, ’60s and ’80s incarnations of the of Art Clokey show about a little, gummy, green guy who has stop-motion-animated adventures with his pal, Pokey the horse. The episodes have been remastered to coincide with the property’s 50th anniversary. Bonus features include the original 1953 theatrical short Gumbasia, the pilot episode Gumby on the Moon, rare Gumby bumpers and characters bios. Classic Media and Genius Products have the release listed at $16.93.
In Chill Out, Scooby-Doo, the Great Dane and his pals embark on a bone-chilling journey to the top of Mount Everest in search of the legendary Abominable Snowmonster. Accompanying the new feature from Warner Home Video are deleted scenes, a music video and a menu challenge titled Scooby-Doo’s Shangri-La Showdown. The disc lists for $19.98.
Disney Princess Enchanted Tales: Follow Your Dreams is a new feature-length movie in which Jasmine from Aladdin and Aurora from Sleeping Beauty demonstrate the importance of perseverance in two separate musical tales. The Buena Vista Home Entertainment release carries a suggested retail price of $26.99 and includes the Aurora Dress Up and Find Sahara games.
Robot Chicken Season 2 is a two-disc set offering 20 uncensored episodes of the hit Adult Swim show that pokes fun at pop culture with stop-motion animation. Warner has the set listed at $29.98 and has thrown in deleted scenes, deleted animatics, commentary on every episode, behind-the-scenes footage, video blogs, a gag reel and a slide show.
Garfield and Friends: Dreams and Schemes from Fox Home Entertainment is a compilation of fifteen episodes of the animated TV series produced by Garfield creator Jim Davis’ Paws Inc. For $14.98, fans also get an exclusive Pooky Mini-Beanie plush toy.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Season 5’Volume 1 is another double discer that offers 20 episodes of the hit Nickelodeon cartoon series. Released by Paramount Home Video, the set sells for $36.99 or less.
