Miller Heads U.S. Toon Production for Atlantyca

Italian publishing and production company Atlantyca Ent. has appointed entertainment production and development exec Karen K. Miller to oversee its U.S.-based animation production operations. Working in Los Angeles, Miller will collaborate with the company’s Italy-based chairman, Pietro Marietti, and senior manager and exec producer, Caterina Vacchi.

Miller recently served as associate producer of animation on Twentieth Century Fox’s summer blockbuster The Simpsons Movie. For the past 18 years, she has worked at Warner Bros., most recently as VP of property acquisitions for Warner Bros. Consumer Products. She is credited with acquiring and developing the preschool series Firehouse Tales for WBCP and Cartoon Network, and for acquiring Cartoon Network’s preschool series Harry and His Bucket Full of Dinosaurs for Cartoon Network. Prior to joining the Consumer Products division, Miller was a producer for Warner Bros. Television, racking up credits on The Oblongs and other animated series.

“Karen is one of the entertainment industry’s top production executives with a vast range of experience, [and] is a tremendous asset to our company as we take our properties into the U.S. market,’ Marietti comments. “Her creativity and knowledge of the acquisition and licensing of children’s properties through to production of network series makes her the ideal executive to lead Atlantyca’s ambitious production strategy goals, starting with our Geronimo Stilton animated series.”

Geronimo Stilton is a new animated TV show based on the award-winning and internationally known chapter book series for kids. Miller’s responsibilities will include working with Atlantyca’s home office in Italy on U.S. distribution efforts and developing U.S. licensing initiatives for Geronimo and future entertainment properties.

Atlantyca Ent. was established in September of 2006 and is seeking co-production partners for TV, film and multi-platform content based on its other renowned book properties, including Ulysses Moore and Tea Sisters. The company aims to develop new properties annually as part of its aggressive plan to expand its production and distribution operations.
