Toronto’s Side Effects Software has announced the launch of a new version of its trademark Houdini product. Houdini 9 is said to be more accessible to artists and smaller boutique fx studios. The new version is available for download at sidefx.com and includes a new artist-friendly user interface, python support, fluid dynamics, rendering enhancements and new character tools.
‘The reaction to Houdini 9 has been overwhelming and many of our customers have already started to work with it in production,’ says Kim Davidson, Side Effects president and founder. ‘The Fluid Dynamics has been particularly popular and we look forward to seeing how our customers use this new feature in their upcoming projects.’
Houdini 9 is available for as low as $1,999 USD for Houdini Escape which brings Houdini’s node-based workflow to modelers, lighters, animators and character riggers and $7,999 USD for Houdini Master which provides Houdini’s particle and dynamic tools to visual effects artists and technical directors. Both of these products are available in the Houdini store which can be accessed from anywhere in the world.
Houdini has been used to create stunning digital animation in feature such as Transformers, Spider-Man 3, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, The Last Mimzy, Superman Returns, The Wild, The Ant Bully, Poseidon, X-Men: The Last Stand, Spider-Man (1 & 2), The Polar Express, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Stealth, Sin City, X-Men, X2: X-Men United, the Harry Potter series, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and the Matrix trilogy.
