If you needed more evidence that hot zombie-fighting women have got what it takes to bring fan-boys to movie theaters, check out the results of this past weekend’s box-office derby. Sony’s Resident Evil: Extinction, the third chapter in the successful film adaptations of the videogames, was the top film nationwide. The action-packed Milla Jovovich vehicle raked in $24 million in 2,828 theaters in the U.S.
Lionsgate’s poorly reviewed Dane Cook and Jessica Alba comedy Good Luck Chuck was the No. 2 pix, with an estimated $14 million, while Jodie Foster’s revenge-killing thriller The Brave One continued to attract wide audiences with $7.4 million, bringing the film’s total b.o. to $25.1 million in its second weekend of release.
