Chicago Kids Animate A Solution

Nine middle-school children at Jahn World Language School in Chicago are staying after school this week to make an animated film that will offer what they perceive to some possible solutions to the world’s biggest problems. Created with a team of international directors, For Every Problem A Solution will be screened this weekend at the Chicago Int’l Children’s Film Festival. Copies will also be sent to Chicago’s Mayor Richard J. Daley, Governor Rod Blogojevich and President George W. Bush.

Project directors Flavie Darchen and Renaud Armanet from France first interviewed the students to discuss what they believe to be the world’s greatest struggles, then asked them to come up with ideas for resolving those issues. Darchen and Armanet recently completed the same project with children in Mali, who voiced their opinions on the most important topics in their lives and sent the film the country’s president, Amadou Toumani.

For Every Problem A Solution will premier during the Chicago Int’l Children’s Film Festival’s Top Pix-Kids Flicks II program at Facets Cinema on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. Tickets for film screenings are $6 for children and $8 for adults, and are available via Ticketweb at www.cicff.org or (866)468-3401. A complete schedule is available online at www.cicff.org.
