Director David Dobkin, who helmed the blockbuster comedy The Wedding Crashers, has been tapped to direct the first big-screen adaptation of DC Comics’ The Flash, according to MTV. Daily Variety also reports that Warner Bros. has signed TV veteran Greg Berlanti (Dirty Sexy Money, Brothers & Sisters, Everwood, Dawson’s Creek) to direct a live-action movie based on DC Comics’ Green Lantern.
The Flash film has been in development at Warner Bros. for some time now, and has seen a number of directors come and go. David S. Goyer (Blade: Trinity) left the project over creative differences in February, and was replaced by Sean Levy, who had just scored a major hit with the Ben Stiller comedy Night at the Museum.
Dobkin, who also directed Clay Pigeons, Shanghai Knights and the upcoming holiday comedy Fred Claus, told MTV News that his Flash flick will be a direct spin-off of Warner Bros. eagerly awaited Justice League of America. Casting still hasn’t been announced, but whoever gets the role will be playing Wally West, who takes over as The Flash after the death of Barry Allen. The Justice League movie is even rumored to begin with Allen’s funeral.
The O.C.‘s Adam Brody is reportedly in the running to play The Flash in Justice League of America, and relative newcomer Teresa Palmer (Wolf Creek) is rumored to have landed the role of Wonder Woman. Warner Bros. and director George Miller (Happy Feet) will not make any official announcements until the all principal parts are cast.
Berlanti will write the Green Lantern screenplay with Brothers & Sisters writer/producer Marc Guggenheim, who has written for the Marvel comic book series The Amazing Spider-Man, Wolverine and Blade. Heroes co-exec producer Michael Green, who wrote issues of DC Comic’s Superman and Batman, is also contributing to the script, and Donald De Line is producing.
