The Official production site for Guillermo del Toro’s eagerly awaited Hellboy 2: The Golden Army has just launched, offering a welcome note from the director and his first blog entry from the set in Budapest. Fans of the first film and Mike Mignola’s Dark Horse comic books can go to www.hellboymovie.com for news, feature articles, early cast interviews, concept art and more.
Hellboy 2: The Golden Army continues the saga of a demon conjured by Nazis who decides to fight for the good guys. After an ancient truce existing between humankind and the invisible fantasy realm is broken, hell on Earth is ready to erupt. A ruthless leader who treads the world above and the one below defies his bloodline and awakens an unstoppable army of creatures, and it’s up to Hellboy and his buddies at the Bureau for Paranormal Research to stop him. Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones and John Hurt all reprise their roles from the first film. They also voice their respective characters in Starz Media’s series of animated direct-to-video Hellboy movies. A third toon feature, Hellboy: The Phantom Claw, is in the works.
The official website also features del Toro’s Hell Boy 2 scrapbook, featuring concept art and descriptions of each image. In addition, visitors can watch Abe Sapien deliver a welcome message live from the BRPD Headquarters and imbed the video on their Facebook profiles, and chat with other fans on the message board.
Written by del Toro from a story he conceived with Mignola, Hellboy 2: The Golden Army is being produced by Lawrence Gordon, Lloyd Levin and Mike Richardson, with Chris Symes serving as exec producer. The action-packed supernatural thriller will be released by Universal Pictures on July 11, 2008.
