Classic Warner Bros. cartoons meet contemporary television favorites at retail today as Warner Home Video release The Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol. 5, and 20 Century Fox Home Entertainment debuts the TV Animation Giftset, featuring the new Family Guy Freakin’ Party Pack and episode sets of Futurama, King of the Hill and American Dad.
The Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol. 5 is a four-disc set offering 60 more time-honored animated shorts, some of which have never been released on home vide, and more than five hours of bonus features. Disc one features some of the best Bugs and Daffy shorts, while disc two come loaded with Looney Tunes versions of well-known fairy tales. The third disc features the best of Looney Tunes directed by Bob Clampett, and disc 4 is all about the early days of Warner Bros. Animation. Extras include the two-part documentary Chuck Jones: Extremes and In-Betweens, a Life in Animation, a Chuck Jones drawing tutorial and various featurettes including Behind the Tunes, Unsung Maestros: A Directors Tribute and Drawn to Life: The Art of Robert McKimson. Also featuring bonus cartoons, commentary and various TV specials, the disc set lists for $64.98.
FOX’s TV Animation Giftset offers four volumes of Futurama, six King of the Hill releases and two sets of American Dad episodes. The centerpiece of the bundle is the Family Guy Freakin’ Party Pack. The 18-disc set includes more than 90 episodes previously released in the volumes 1-5 collections, as well as the straight-to-DVD feature Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story, a Family Guy-themed ping-pong set and 100 themed poker chips with two sets of playing cards. Bonus materials include 24 deleted scenes from season three, audio commentary on select episodes, storyboards, guest-star interviews, a voice recording featurette and other featurettes not currently available on any other DVD. The pack can be bought separately for the suggested retail price of $149.98, or purchased as part of the TV Animation Giftset, which lists for $569.74.
