Shrek the Halls Gets Air Date

The ABC Television Network has announced a premiere date for the upcoming DreamWorks Animation TV special Shrek the Halls. Joining such beloved ABC holiday favorites as Charlie Brown Christmas and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, the half-hour Shrek adventure will premiere on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 8 p.m. (ET).

Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and Antonio Banderas all reprise their roles in Shrek the Halls, which finds the green ogre lacking holiday cheer on Christmas Eve. For the sake of Fiona and the kids, he tries to get into the spirit, but finds his plans for a cozy family celebration spiraling out of control when Donkey, Puss In Boots, Gingerbread Man and the whole gang try to join in on the fun.

Shrek the Halls is directed by Gary Trousdale (Beauty and the Beast), who also shares a writing credit with Sean Bishop, Theresa Cullen and Bill Riling. Gina Shay (The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie) produced the special with Teresa Cheng (Madagascar), and Aron Warner served as exec producer.

Despite a false start with the short-lived NBC series Father of the Pride, DreamWorks Animation has expressed a lot of interest in expanding its properties to television. The studio is developing regular series based on Madagacar which is set to debut on Nickelodeon in 2008 as well as its upcoming feature Kung Fu Panda.
