Sony Pictures Animation has hired Alexa Amin as VP of development. Reporting to senior VP of development Nate Hopper, Amin will be involved with all aspects of film development and production. In addition to developing new projects, she will help oversee films already in the pipeline, including Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Hotel Transylvania, Big Alien Musical and Neanderthals (titles subject to change).
‘Alexa has a wealth of experience in shepherding projects from concept to screen, along with a deep understanding of family entertainment,’ says Hooper. ‘Her knowledge, enthusiasm and talents are a perfect fit with the Sony Pictures Animation team,’ adds Sandra Rabins, senior exec VP of Sony Pictures Animation.
Amin most recently served as VP of production for New Regency Prods., an independent production company distributed by 20th Century Fox. There, she oversaw such films as Firehouse Dog and the upcoming Alvin and the Chipmunks live-action/GC hybrid, as well as director Wes Anderson’s forthcoming animated adaptation of the Roald Dahl children’s book The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Her previous film credits include Mirrors, The Sentinel and The Girl Next Door. Before joining New Regency in 2000, Amin worked for Spyglass Entertainment Group on films including Reign of Fire and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
Sony Pictures Animation has released two successful animated features, Open Season and Surf’s Up, and has recently completed The ChubbChubbs Save Xmas, a comedy short based on the characters introduced in the 2002 Academy Award-winning short film The ChubbChubbs!. The studio is also in production on its first direct-to-DVD release, Open Season 2.
