Big Fun with Global Warming from Climate Cartoons (previously known as Project 3650), was honored last week by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences with the Emmy Award for Best National Public Service Announcements/Broadband. Winners of this year’s Humanitarian, Public and Community Service Emmy Awards were announced during a luncheon ceremony at 30 Rockefeller Center in New York City.
An animated short film by Mark Greene of Pecos Pictures, Big Fun with Global Warming was co-sponsored by the Sierra Club and features Stinky, a nasty little office worker who thinks global warming is ‘a bunch of hooey.’ ‘Pecos Pictures specializes in taking complex political issues and presenting them with a humorous twist, but we’re dead serious about the issues involved,’ says Greene.
Climate Cartoons is a non-profit organization run by animators, producers and distribution experts, including professionals from Colossal Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios. The group’s mission is to gently lure people into earth-friendly behavior via entertaining animation. ‘What if we could make American families laugh while showing them how to solve the climate crisis?’ Al Gore asks in response to the project.
