Ghostbusters Sequel is Game Plan

Fans who have longed to see Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis taking on specters again will soon get their wish, just not on the big screen. Daily Variety reports that Sony Pictures and Vivendi Games have teamed up to develop a Ghostbusters game that will feature the voices and likenesses of all four stars of the popular films from the 1980s. The title is expected to be released under Vivendi’s Sierra label in the fall of 2008.

Annie Potts, Brian Doyle Murray and William Atherton will also reprise their supporting roles in the films for the game, which will reportedly take place in the early ’90s, pick up where 1989’s Ghostbusters II left off. Aykroyd and Ramis are writing the story and taking a very active role in the development process.

Vivendi has been looking to mine more classic film properties since its Mature-rated video game based on Brian de Palma’s Scarface sold more than 2.5 million units last year, racking up more than $125 million. Also among the company’s licensed properties are several Robert Ludlum books including The Bourne Identity.

The Ghostbusters game is being developed by Terminal Reality for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. Red Fly Studios is creating a Playstation 2, Wii and DS version aimed more at families and casual gamers.
