The final installment in the three-episode ‘Imaginationland’ story arc of South Park was Comedy Central’s most-watched telecast of the year. The episode aired Wednesday, Oct. 31 and drew nearly 4 million total viewers eager to see if the U.S. government would nuke Imaginationland and if Kyle would finally make good on his promise to perform a certain sexual act on Cartman.
In episode III of the ‘Imaginationland’ trilogy, Kyle, Stan and Butters engaged in the battle of their lives to save Imaginationland while Cartman continued to seek justice for his dry testicles. The broadcast attracted more viewers in the 18-49 age group than any other episode since the show’s historic second season when Cartman discovered the identity of his father. According to Comedy Central, the episode was also the night’s most watched program in all of television among men 18-34, and was the top-rated program on cable among the P18-49 demographic.
All three episodes combined drew nearly 10 million unique viewers to South Park, which airs Wednesday nights at 10:00 p.m. The trilogy averaged an impressive 7.5 rating among men 18-24, scoring a 23 share with the highly coveted demographic, even beating out Game one of the World Series.
The “Imaginationland” trilogy will be released by Comedy Central Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment in March of 2008. The special DVD release will be uncensored and will include additional footage created exclusively for the DVD. Learn more about the show at www.southparkstudios.com.
