As it continues to push its own properties, including Creature Comforts, Wallace and Gromit and Shawn the Sheep, Aardman International is expanding its portfolio of third-party properties with the acquisition of worldwide TV, DVD and online rights to the award-winning stop-motion film Peter and the Wolf. the half-hour movie has already been licensed in several territories.
‘Aardman is the undisputed world leader in model animation, and I can think of no better place for Peter and the Wolf to be, than being a part of Aardman’s high-quality catalog,’ says Hugh Welchman, the film’s producer.
The latest film version of Prokofiev’s classic work was adapted and directed by BAFTA Award winner Suzie Templeton and produced by BreakThru Films. Featuring a special new recording by the Philharmonia Orchestra and some 21st Century twists, the short first aired on Channel 4 last year after a successful run on the festival circuit. It won the Cristal and Audience Awards at Annecy this year, as well as the Rose d’Or award at the 2007 Festival for Entertainment Television Programming, and the 2007 Pulcinella award for the Best European Program of the Year at Cartoons on the Bay. In addition, it was recently short-listed for an Academy Award.
