Universal Pictures and director Guillermo del Toro are giving Hellboy fans a first look at the upcoming sequel, Hellboy 2: The Golden Army. Based on the comic book series created by Mike Mignola, the film promises to deliver plenty of CG-animated creatures and other thrilling visual effects. Golden Army continues the saga of a demon conjured by Nazis who decides to fight for the good guys. After an ancient truce existing between humankind and the invisible fantasy realm is broken, hell on Earth is ready to erupt. A ruthless leader who treads the world above and the one below defies his bloodline and awakens an unstoppable army of creatures, and it’s up to Hellboy and his buddies at the Bureau for Paranormal Research to stop him. Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones and John Hurt all reprise their roles from the first film.
Written by del Toro from a story he conceived with Mignola, Hellboy 2: The Golden Army is being produced by Lawrence Gordon, Lloyd Levin and Mike Richardson, with Chris Symes serving as exec producer. The supernatural action flick will be released in theaters on July 11, 2008.
