Tales Alive Debuts in Singapore

Singapore’s MediaCorp TV 12 Kids Central today began airing Tales Alive, a new series of English-language animated shorts based on original stories from authors and illustrators in Singapore. Produced by Peach Blossom Media, the tales are presented in a variety of illustration and animation styles as they bring to life nine children’s storybooks published under the Media Development Authority’s (MDA) First Time Writers and Illustrators Publishing Initiative (FTWIPI).

Aimed at preschoolers and older children, the stories will air on MediaCorp TV as three-and-a-half-minute interstitials on weekdays between 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. In addition, MediaCorp TV 12 Arts Central will air two-minute interview capsules that offer further insights into the stories behind the animation and the creative experiences of the books’ creators.

Commenting on the significance of the series, MDA assistant chief executive officer Seto Lok Yin says, ‘This meaningful animation series is a wonderful example of cross-media opportunities for content creation which we encourage the media industry to leverage on.’

Starting Dec. 7, viewers will be able to visit the series’ dedicated web destination at www.TalesAlive.sg. Created by Peach Blossom Media, the site will offer additional information on the creation of Tales Alive, as well as clips of the animation and interviews with the creators of the storybooks. Plans to distribute the animated stories beyond Singapore are said to be in the works.
