Disney Channel Tops with Kids

Buoyed by the phenomenal success of live-action programs such as High School Musical and Hannah Montana, as well as a slate of hit animated shows, Disney Channel enjoyed its most-watched year in 2007. Citing Live + 7 ratings data, the net says it finished the year as the No.1 cable network in primetime with the key demographics of kids 6-11 and 9-14. This is the first time Disney Channel has achieved evening dominance, delivering the largest annual audience in cable history.

Disney Channel stands as TV’s top-rated network with kids 6-11 for the 5th consecutive year, and with tweens (9-14) for the seventh year. In addition to winning those prime demographics, the network found its largest preschool audience in 2007 with its Playhouse Disney block, featuring the popular Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

Disney’s High School Musical 2 was reportedly cable’s most-watched telecast of all time in total viewers, attracting approximately 170 million sets of eyes worldwide. In addition, the network says Hannah Montana rated as the top scripted series among kids 6-11 and 9-14 for the second consecutive year. The Suite Life of Zack & Cody apparently came in at No. 2. The animated series Phineas and Ferb, Shaun the Sheep and The Replacements debuted strong, joining such toon staples as Kim Possible, Lilo & Stitch: The Series, Dave the Barbarian and The Emperor’s New School.
