Today’s list of home video releases includes the new, direct-to-video animated fantasy movie Dragonlance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight, which features the voices of Kiefer Sutherland and Lucy Lawless. The Paramount Home Entertainment release is joined on shelves by episodes of Cartoon Network’s CG-animated action series, Storm Hawks.
Based on the first volume in the Dragonlance Chronicles series of books by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, the Dragonlance movie centers on a group of adventures who rally around a barbarian woman carrying a miraculous blue crystal staff to battle an army of dragons that overtakes their homeland. Directed by Will Meugniot, whose credits include Stargate: Infinity and The Real Ghostbusters, the film is produced by Toonz Animation, Commotion Pictures and Epic Level Ent., with conceptual artwork by Kunoichi. The disc lists for $19.99 and offers character designs and a preliminary animation test.
For heroic battles with a more futuristic spin, Sony offers Storm Hawks: Hawks Rise Again and Storm Hawks: Tales From the Atmos. Each disc offers four episodes and one exclusive bonus installment of the popular show from Nerd Corp. Ent.
Storm Hawks is the saga of five mismatched teens and their strange, furry sidekick, who defend the people of Atmos against an evil oppressor. Long after the original Sky Knights were taken out of commission by the dark forces of Cyclonia, our heroes stumble upon their technology and take up the quest to patrol the roadways and skyways in a bid to thwart villains on transforming flying motorcycles.
Each DVD volume has an approximated running time of 110 minutes and comes with a collectible, limited-edition Storm Hawks comic book in a foil and embossed O-ring. Other bonus features include a montage of the Storm Hawks and their weapons, as well as a look at the Cyclonians and their instruments of evil. The releases each carry a suggested retail price of $16.97.
