Polar Express Soundtrack Goes Gold

As the 2004 performance-capture feature The Polar Express gains ground as a holiday favorite, the film’s original soundtrack continues to build up steam at retail. Over the holiday season, the disc was certified gold in recognition of sales exceeding 500,000.

Based on the children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg (Jumanji, Zathura), and helmed by Academy Award-winning director Robert Zemeckis (Beowulf, Forest Gump) The Polar Express features the voice and likeness of Tom Hanks in multiple roles as a mysterious train takes a doubting young boy on a wild ride to the North Pole and Santa’s headquarters.

The film was re-released in select IMAX venues this fall and has also been re-released on DVD and introduced on HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc this year. In addition, it aired as part of ABC Family’s ’25 Days of Christmas. Fans of the movie were offered a chance to take their own trip to the North Pole with The Polar Express Experience at SeaWorld in Orlando, Fla. The park’s Wild Arctic attraction was transformed into an expedition to Santa Town through Jan. 1, and may become an annual tradition.
