Porchlight Home Entertainment has acquired exclusive U.S. DVD distribution rights to Granada International’s animated children’s series Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids, Funky Valley and Funky Town. With the pick-up, the properties join a catalog that includes the LeapFrogholiday special A Tad of Christmas Cheer, the award-winning Wheels on the Bus series, and other series including Little Playdates, Travel With Kids and Adventures From the Book of Virtues.
Aimed at kids 6-12, Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids is a collection of spine-tingling and humorous stories based on the popular books by Jamie Rix. The various stories have Teddy bears taking revenge on not-so-loving owners, constipated children learning the true value of nutrition after being bitten by a fruit bat, and a wasteful girl finding herself being recycled by Recyclops.
Funky Valley offers funny fables for kids 4-6. The stories are told in a madcap farmyard populated by odd, misfit animal characters who wallow in their peculiarity. The cast of critters includes a dreamy cow named Dippy, a busy hen named Clara, a sensible pig named Porker, a neurotic sheep named Fleecie and a bossy duck named Daphne.
Clara the chicken and Dippy the cow move to town and open a laid-back milk bar in the spin-off series Funky Town. In each episode, new customer or caf’ regular has a problem to be solved with the help of Amadeus, a wise old wolf. Recurring characters include Francis the drake, Pricilla the crocodile, Chipolata the pig and loveable villain Norris the rat.
