Luxology has enhanced its flagship 3D content creation software with its modo 302 update, which is free to customers who use modo 301 on Mac OSX or Winndows. The company says the release is its most comprehensive free update ever, offering new natural lighting capabilities, additional layered Photoshop file support, an animation view Track, new modeling tools and various other enhancements. The latest version of modo also provides the File I/O software development kit, which allows developers to import and export data directly from the application.
Leveraging a powerful, real-time subdivision surface modeling engine with an artist-focused set of tools for sculpting, painting and rendering, modo 302 is designed to streamline content creation workflow by allowing artists to accomplish a variety of tasks without leaving the interface. The software can also animate virtually any object in a scene and import motion and deformation data from other software applications.
The new Track View editor promises to deliver dramatic improvement in the animation capability of modo, offering an intuitive user interface for creating and fine-tuning complex animation sequences. Other features include an improved Flex tool for selecting and posing meshes; new Physical Sun and Physical Sky simulation for creating realistic sky color and light intensity based on location, date and time of day; and large scene optimization that enables scenes with large numbers of items to load approximately two times faster.
Luxology’s modo is being used in a number of major game, film and television projects, including Pixar’s upcoming animated feature Wall’E. Modo 302 ships with dual licenses that support both Mac OSX and Windows, and retails for the suggested retail price of $895. For more information on the release, go to www.modo3d.com.
