Cartoon Network is set to debut VIZ Media’s animated series based on the Xbox 360 game Blue Dragon this spring, but fans can get a first look with exclusive sneak preview airing on Saturday, March 29 at 10:30 p.m. Featuring character designs by Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball Z), the show premiered in Japan on TV Tokyo in April of 2007.
The Blue Dragon game was developed by Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy, and features character designs by Akira Toriyama, creator of the best-selling Dragon Ball manga series. Published by Microsoft Game Studios, the title hit retail in Japan in December of 2006 and made it way to the states last August.
The animated television version, which is expected to a carry a rating of TV Y7FV, is described as a classic adventure story involving magical powers, flying air fortresses and heroic feats. Brought together by fate, Seven Soldiers of Light must awaken the Shadow within themselves in time to overcome a despotic power and bring peace to their land.

The animation is produced by Studio Pierrot, a shop is known for its work on the popular VIZ anime shows Naruto and Bleach, which also air on Cartoon Network. Bandai America will debut a line of three-inch, four-inch and seven-inch collectible action figures based on the series this July.
