Spanish production and distribution company Imira Ent. will offer the international debut of the French animated show Tangerine & Cow at MIPTV in Cannes next month. The series of 78 seven–minute episodes was acquired from Normaal Animation for worldwide distribution, with the exception of French speaking Europe, the Netherlands, Greece, Hungary and Finland.
Aimed at the kids 6-12 demographic, Tangerine & Cow is described as a fast-paced, spicy 2D series abut a seemingly normal, urban family with a talking cow for a pet. The father is overcommitted professional who could be an adventurer, a businessman, a secret agent or a struggling actor, and the mother is a disaster-prone Nobel hopeful inventor. Rounding out the family are a philosophical teenage boy who takes life as it comes, and an eight-year-old girl with way too much energy.
A co-production of Normaal and France 3, Tangrine & Cow is is based on the comic book Chico Mandarine, written by renowned author Jacques Azam and published by ‘ditions Milan. The show airs every Sunday morning on France 3, where it has attracted between 850,000 and one million viewers since its launch in July, according to Imira.
Also headlining Imira’s MIPTV slate are two of the latest additions to the company’s expanding third-party distribution slate. The Olympic-themed Go! Go! Pig from Italian producer Maga Animation currently airs on Nickelodeon Italy, treating kids to the adventures of a gluttonous hog who wins sporting events with the aid of a sneaky feline trainer. Rat-Man, a toon comedy from RAI and Italian production company Stranemani, is based on the popular book series of the same name. The show about a rodent who fancies himself a superhero has previously been sold to HBO Family Asia.
