Boondocks Coming Uncut, Uncensored

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment announced today that the second season of Aaron McGruder’s edgy animated comedy series, The Boondocks, will be released as a three-disc DVD set on June 10. The release will include all 13 episodes, including the two installments that Cartoon Network felt were too controversial for Adult Swim viewers.

Based on McGruder’s award-winning, politically charged comic strip, The Boondocks follows the crazy lives of two street-smart kids, Riley and Huey Freeman, who come to live with their cantankerous grandfather in a wealthy suburban neighborhood. In addition to series regulars Regina King, John Witherspoon, Cedric Yarbrough, Jill Talley, Gabby Soleil and Gary Anthony Williams, the second season features voice performances by Mos Def, Lil Wayne, Cedric the Entertainer, Snoop Dogg, Katt Williams and Busta Rhymes.

The bonus episodes, which aired on TELETOON in Canada but not in the U.S., are ‘The Hunger Strike’ with guest stars Cee-Lo, Donald Faison, Tavis Smiley and Debra Wilson, and ‘The Uncle Ruckus Reality Show’ with Donald Faison and Debra Wilson. Other bonus features include commentary from McGruder on his favorite episodes, and an individual character profile featurette. The set will carry a suggested retail price of $49.95.
