Climate Cartoons Brings Green to Screen

Moviegoers who manage to find a seat before the previews at certain theaters will be treated to an animated short that gives them tips on how to reduce their personal contribution to global warming. Seven Big Ideas from Climate Cartoons debuted over the weekend and will appear in theatrical pre-show presentations with G- and PG-rated films across the U.S through April 24. The short can also be seen online at www.climatecartoons.org/screeningRoom.php?toon=k0002.

Climate Cartoons, a leading producer of animation that inspires action to prevent climate change, uses the power of animation to educate viewers on the dangers of climate change in a light-hearted, entertaining manner. Funded by The MacArthur Foundation, Seven Big Ideas was commissioned by Climate Cartoons for presentation at last summer’s LiveEarth concerts. It features Izz and Dex, two green-skinned characters from WGBH’s larger web series, The Greens (http://meetthegreens.pbskids.org). Dex challenges Izz to list seven ways to save the planet, giving her only 60 seconds to reply.

‘We think there’s nothing more urgent than instilling an environmental ethic in the next generation,’ explains Bill Shribman, exec producer at Boston’s WGBH Interactive and creator of the film. ‘This opportunity exposes young people to the message of ‘Seven Big Ideas’ in a compelling way.’

‘We welcome this opportunity to work with WGBH and theatrical exhibitors who allow us to reach millions of Americans through this presentation,’ said Pam Kerwin, Executive Director, Climate Cartoons. ‘Our goal is to inspire more resource conscious earth-friendly behavior by showing entertaining Climate Cartoons to everyone everywhere.’

Climate Cartoons, a principal initiative of Project 3650, is a non-profit organization run by animators, producers and distribution experts. The group includes talented professionals from leading studios such as Colossal Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios. For more information on the organization go to www.climatecartoons.org.
