Yep. Hank and his back-alley crew will have to make a few more beer runs as FOX renews King of the Hill for another season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has ordered 13 more episodes of the long-running animated comedy from Mike Judge (Beavis and Butt-head) and Greg Daniels (The Office). The new slate of installments will begin airing in the winter, kicking off the show’s 13 season.
All cast members, including Mike Judge, Kathy Najimy, Pamela Adlon, Brittany Murphy, Tom Petty, Johnny Hardwick and Stephen Root, are returning to populate the suburban Texas town of Arlen with loveably eccentric characters. The new stories will reportedly begin airing in February, and will be spread out over the 2009-2010 season.
Production on King of the Hill was shut after its 10th season and a number of crew members moved on to other jobs. Steady ratings and DVD potential convinced FOX that the series still had a place in its animated Sunday-night lineup. The network has since been taking it season by season rather than locking up multi-year deals with the show’s producers.
Judge and King of the Hill exec producers John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky are also developing The Goode Family, an animated comedy series that has received a 13-episode order from ABC. The show is being produced by Media Rights Capital, the company behind ABC’s short-lived animated Clerks series and a number of successful independent live-action films.
