Hertzfeldt Shares Pics from New Film

Oscar-nominated independent animator Don Hertzfeldt (Rejected, Billy’s Balloon) has posted screen grabs from his latest animated opus, I Am So Proud of You. This second chapter to his recent award-winning film Everything Will Be Ok is in the final stages of completion and should be locked by the end of May. Audiences will then be able to catch it on the festival circuit later this year.

In his online journal, Hertzfeldt keeps fans updated on the process of making I Am So Proud of You. ‘[I] was in burbank the other day to see the latest footage for the first time and some of it’s downright jawdropping…’ he writes. ‘There’s still a few things left I’d like to reshoot though, and I didn’t think I’d still be shooting anything but credits this late, but there’s some heavy new experiments in there that just need to be pushed a bit further.’

At a time when most toon producers are interested in pushing CG technology to its limits, Hertzfeldt manages to get a lot of mileage out of hand-drawn stick figures and in-camera compositing, still opting to shoot his animation on film. It took him a year and half to finish Everything Will Be Ok, which was hailed as the top short film at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival and racked up other kudos throughout the year.
