NBC Acquires Gemini Division

According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC Universal has picked up domestic rights to the web series Gemini Division from Electric Farm Ent., makers of Sony’s multiplatform CG-animated series Afterworld. Created and produced by Electric Farm founders Stan Rogow, Brent Friedman and Jeff Sagansky, Gemini Division is a sci-fi property that stars actress and comic-book creator Rosario Dawson.

NBC Universal has also picked up rights to Electric Farm’s upcoming zombie web comedy series Woke Up Dead. Sony Pictures TV will co-produce and distribute both series internationally on mobile, broadband and traditional TV platforms. The 50 three-minute installments of each property will run on NBC.com and other sites in the NBC Universal network. Viewers will be lured to the websites with TV previews of the first eight or so episodes on NBC.

Blending live actors with CG backgrounds and effects, Gemini Division stars Dawson (Grind House, Sin City) as a New York City detective whose investigations uncover a global conspiracy. Perspective Studios has been hired to incorporates digital photography with live-action footage and digital animation. The series is slated to debut in late summer.

NBC also has plans to revamp both Gemini Division and Woke Up Dead for television. Production values will be stepped up for seven half-hour TV episodes of each.
