Animated features have largely been snubbed, but visual effects-driven pics are well represented in this year’s group of nominees for the MTV Movie Awards. Sony’s comedy Superbad leads the pack with a total of five nominations, followed by Fox Searchlight’s Juno with four. Disney’s partially animated Enchanted made out nicely with three nods, as did the studio’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End and DreamWorks/Paramount’s Transformers. Warner Bros.’ I Am Legend, Sony’s Spider-Man 3 and Paramount’s Beowulf also made the list.
Produced by Emmy Award-winning producer Mark Burnett, the 17th annual MTV Movie Awards show will be hosted by Mike Myers and broadcast live from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, Calif. on Sunday, June 1 at 8 p.m. Performers and presenters will be announced at a later date.
