Watchmen Game Coming

As fans of Allan Moore’s and Dave Gibbons’ award-winning graphic novel, Watchmen, eagerly await the debut of next year’s big-screen adaptation, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced at Comic-Con that it will publish an episodic downloadable video game based on the DC comic and Warner Bros. superhero flick. The title will launch for Xbox 360, PlayStation3 and Windows PC in 2009.

Like the graphic novel, the game will be a complex, multi-layered mystery adventure in which gamers will play as the film’s core group of masked adventurers, who include Night Owl, Rorschach, The Silk Specter and Dr. Manhattan. The interactive experience will go beyond the film and delve into the characters, rivalries and challenges in a mature action-brawler.

‘We’re bringing the Watchmen universe to gamers in a distinct episodic game revealing action and combat for a great overall experience for fans,’ comments Samantha Ryan, senior VP of production and development for Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. ‘The filmmakers have been extremely helpful in developing the high-quality game story and we are working to match the outstanding visual style of the film.’

The Hugo Award-winning Watchmen was originally published by DC Comics in 1986. The story is set in a time when superheroes have been outlawed and revolves around a group of caped crusaders who struggle with their own personal demons while trying to avert a nuclear war between the United States and Russia. The Warner Bros.’ adaptation is produced by Larry Gordon, Lloyd Levin and Deborah Snyder, with Jessica Goodman overseeing for co-financer Legendary Pictures. It is slated to arrive in theaters on March 6, 2009. The trailer can now be accessed at the official website, http://watchmenmovie.warnerbros.com.
