DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg revealed that Nickelodeon has ordered a TV pilot based on the recent hit movie Monsters vs. Aliens.
The news, which Katzenberg revealed at a media conference in Boston and reported in The Hollywood Reporter, deepens the relationship between the network and the studio.
The pair recently announced a series based on the movie Kung Fu Panda, and the spinoff series Penguins of Madagascar is currently airing its first season.
DWA’s move into TV is expected to pay off big, with Katzenberg saying it could bring in $40 million to $60 million.
The studio also is working on Kung Fu Panda and Shrek TV specials to air on NBC in 2010.
Monsters vs. Aliens has to date grossed $191 million domestically and a total of $334 million worldwide at the box office.
