Toy Story writers Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen have sold an original screenplay inspired by Don Quixote to Starz Media Animation.
The script, titled Q, is about puppets in Central Park who escape their stage and go on an adventure through the city, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The deal gives Sokolow and Cohen a piece of back-end profits as well as merchandising and ancillary revenues ‘ a rare coup for writers. The pair also will produce and oversee all elements of the production, working with Starz Animation chief David Steinberg.
The pair’s credits include Cheaper by the Dozen, Garfield and Evan Almighty. They also are scripting Walter the Farting Dog and developing a project called Anubis Tapestry at Fox Animation.
