Second Museum Outing A Bigger Attraction Than Ho-Hum Terminator

It looks like Ben Stiller is more evenly matched with the Terminator than expected.

Actor’s Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian came on strong at the box office this weekend, posting an estimated four-day opening weekend gross of $67 million.

But Terminator Salvation, the fourth installment in the popular sci-fi action series, took advantage of its head start, grossing $13 million on its first day of release Thursday on its way to a total weekend haul of $43 million.

Also debuting this weekend was the weak comedy spoof Dance Flick, which opened in 5th place with $11 million.

Holdovers Angels & Demons and Star Trek each came on strong, with the Ron Howard thriller grossing $21.4 million in its second weekend and the revival of the venerable sci-fi franchise taking in $22 million in its third weekend.

Rounding out the top of the charts for the Memorial Day holiday weekend are X-Men Origins: Wolverine with $7.8 million, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past with $3.72 million Obsessed with $2 million and Monsters vs. Aliens, still pulling in audiences to the tune of $1.34 million (and an impressive total gross of $193 million to date).
