UMG Lands 3-D Studio Canal Feature

Universal Music Group has agreed to handle all North American theatrical, DVD, TV and non-theatrical rights, as well as global soundtrack rights, to the Studio Canal 3-D animated movie Around the World in 50 Years.

The film is directed by Ben Stasssen and being produced at nWave’s studio in Brussels. The story is described as a ‘buddy movie with turtles for the 21st century.’

The deal came after an exclusive sales presentation at Cannes that included almost 15 minutes of 3-D.

‘This movie is another important step in our international production: 3D animation. We are happy to have partners within the Vivendi group who can bring together such a strong and diverse team of creative and marketing talent which this project deserves,” said Olivier Courson, CEO of Studio Canal.

The film is set for release in the fourth quarter of 2010.
