Disney-Pixar granted the wish of a terminally ill 10-year-old girl to see the movie Up, showing her the movie only hours before she died of cancer.
Colby Curtin, who had been diagnosed in late 2005 with vascular cancer, had wanted to see the movie ever since she first saw the previews. But she was too ill once it came out May 29 to go to a theater to see it, reported the Orange County Register.
When it became clear her disease was terminal, family and friends contacted Pixar with Curtin’s request.
The studio dispatched an employee with a DVD copy of the movie to Curtin’s home in Huntington Beach on June 10 so she could watch the movie.
Curtin died about seven hours after watching the film.
‘When I watched it, I had really no idea about the content of the theme of the movie,’ the girl’s mother, Lisa Curtin, 46, told the newspaper. ‘I just know that word ‘Up’ and all of the balloons and I swear to you, for me it meant that (Colby) was going to go up. Up to heaven.’
