Toymaker Hasbro ‘ the company behind the blockbuster Transformers and next week’s G.I. Joe adaptation ‘ is getting into the TV business and has appointed Stephen J. Davis the new post of president of Hasbro Studios.
According to Cynopsis, the studio will be based in Los Angeles and will focus on turning the company’s toy brands into TV series. It also will develop new branded content and produce programs from third-party creators.
The appointment of Davis, previously the CEO of Family Entertainment Group, will take effect in September. His other credits include managing a development and production venture between Southern Star and World Wrestling Entertainment. He also was president of mobile and online media for InfoSpace and president of Granada America.
Hasbro Studios productions are expected to appear on a still unnamed TV network created as a joint venture with Discovery Communications and due to launch in fall 2010.
