FotoKem Buys Spy Post, Starts VFX Unit

FotoKem, one of the top post-production facility in Hollywood for more than four decades, has bought Spy Post, a San Francisco-based commercials and movie post production company.

The deal allows FotoKem to open a new visual effects unit that will be housed within Spy Post. The move will allow FotoKem, established in 1963, to offer a full menu of pre- and post-production services for features and commercials, supported by filed-based workflows, digital-intermediate pipelines and services for new camera technologies.

All of FotoKem’s services will be accessible through the San Francisco facility, either in-house or via a high-speed connection to its Burbank offices.

“This is a logical step in the expansion of our business,’ says Mike Morelli, FotoKem’s senior VP of strategic planning. ‘We can now have more of a direct relationship with our clients in Northern California, as well as offer decades of VFX experience to our existing client base across the country.’

Spy Post was founded in 1998 by Emmy-winning editor Darren Orr and industry veteran Eric Hanson.
