Nick Brings Ni Hao, Kai-lan to U.K.

Nickelodeon U.K. is picking up for fall airing the U.S. production Ni Hao, Kai-lan, which teaches preschoolers basic Mandarin Chinese.

The channel will air the first 10 half-hour episodes twice a day through September, and will completely re-voice the series, aimed at children ages 2-5, with U.K. talent.

The series was created by Karen Chau, executive produced by Mary Harrington and animated in a collaboration between Nickelodeon, Wang Films and the Wang Studio in Greater China.

The series has been a top-five preschool program in the United States since it was launched in February 2008, and has done well in other territories including France.

‘We hope that Ni Hao, Kai-lan will open children’s eyes to how diverse the world is and give them the tools to relate to their surroundings on both a linguistic and emotional level,’ said Debbie MacDonald, VP programming director for Nickelodeon. ‘Nick Jr. is dedicated to entertaining children in a stimulating, fun and educational way and Ni Hao, Kai-lan continues this tradition in a beautifully crafted and engaging way.’
