Living Dead to Be Remade as 3-D, CG Origin Tale

Night of the Living Dead, the classic horror flick directed by George Romero, is the latest film to get bit by the remake vibe, again.

The planned remake would be a 3-D, CG version of the tale, to be directed by Zebediah de Soto and produced by Simon West and Simon West Productions president Jib Polhemus, according to The Hollywood Reporter‘s Heat Vision blog

The trade reports the new version will be updated, with expanded character back stories and an approach de Soto describes as ‘American-style anime.’

The director plans to use a real-time effects system he developed with partner Gus Malliarodaki at their New Golden Digital Effects company. The system is called ‘The Beast’ and it allows filmmakers to direct CG performances the same way as live-action ones.

Romero will not be involved in the new take on the film. His 1968 zombie thriller was first remade in 1990, then got a 3-D update in 2006. The property has become a popular target for re-dos since it fell under public domain.
