Luxo Sues Pixar Over Planned Lamp Sale

The Luxo lamp company has sued animation studio Pixar over the studio’s plans to sell a limited edition ‘Luxo Jr.’ lamp with the upcoming Blu-ray version of Up.

‘Luxo Jr.’ is the name of the lamp that Pixar chief John Lasseter turned into the company’s logo more than two decades ago. He based the design on his own Luxo lamp.

Luxo, which is based in Norway, filed the suit in New York federal court, claiming that allowing Pixar to sell the lamps would ’cause devastating damage to Luxo,’ the Los Angeles Times reports.

A spokesman for Disney told the Times the studio had not yet seen the suit and would not comment.
