Malaysian satcaster Jia Yu has teamed up with Centraline Animation to begin pre-production on the companies’ first animated feature movie, Headhunters of Borneo.
The 70-minute movie will tell a story based on the headhunting culture of Borneo, and is expected to be released next year in theaters in both English and Bahasa Malaysia language versions. The project was announced at MIPCOM.
‘The making of a feature-length movie is the ultimate aspiration for any production company,’ says Centraline CEO Damien Leong. ‘The Headhunters of Borneo represents a whole new milestone for both Jia Yu and Centraline, and underlines our seriousness in producing exceptional content to entertain viewers across multiple platforms.’
Centraline COO Pau Ling Wang says the movie will be suitable for a family audience, with the headhunting ritual serving only as background to its greater story about love, romance, honor and respect.
Production on the film will be split into four segments, with Centraline directing one and the rest being overseen by professionals from outside the country.
Centraline, which has won several awards for its TV animation, plans a second feature film for 2011 ‘ a feature length version of its Family Whizz series.
