Twenty films have been submitted for consideration as the best animated feature film in this year’s Academy Awards, making it likely that five films will be nominated in the category for only the second time ever.
The 20 films that have been submitted are

‘ Disney’s A Christmas Carol
‘ The Dolphin ‘ Story of a Dreamer

‘ Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
‘ Mary and Max
‘ The Missing Lynx
‘ Monsters vs. Aliens
‘ 9
‘ Planet 51
‘ Ponyo
‘ The Princess and the Frog
‘ The Secret of Kells
‘ Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure
‘ A Town Called Panic
‘ Up
Five of the films have until the end of the year to qualify by playing in a Los Angeles theater. They are Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, The Dolphin ‘ Story of a Dreamer, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Planet 51, The Princess and the Frog, The Secret of Kells and A Town Called Panic.
The submitted features also have to meet the other requirements set forth in the Academy’s rules, which allow for as many as five nominations when more than 16 films are eligible.
The 82nd Academy Awards nominations will be announced on Feb. 2 at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater. The awards will be presented March 7 at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center, and televised live by the ABC Television Network.
