Marvel is passing its release dates from Peter Parker to Thor and the residents of Asgard.
Sony has backed off its planned May 6, 2011, release date for Spider-Man 4. The delay is due to problems with the script, which has pushed back the planned start date.
The Hollywood Reporter states director Sam Raimi and the studio are disagreeing on the villains the film will use. Raimi reportedly is pushing for classic villain The Vulture, with John Malkovich his rumored casting choice. The studio is pushing for a subplot that would involve a romance between Spider-Man and the sexy villainess The Black Cat.
Alvin Sargent, who worked on both Spider-Man 2 and 3, is currently taking another crack at the script.
Claiming the gap in the release schedule is Thor, another Marvel superhero movie. Directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins, Thor is being produced in house by Marvel Studios and distributed by Paramount. The film is set to begin production later this month.
