Up, Loaf, Avatar Top Animag’s Oscar Poll

The official results of this year’s Academy Awards won’t be announced until Sunday evening, but Animation Magazine‘s online readers poll (www.animationmagazine.net/oscars_09_vote.html) predicts the news will be good for Up, Wallace and Gromit and Avatar.

In Animag’s annual online Oscar Showcase, we gave folks the chance to vote on which film would win in the categories that matter most: Best Animated Feature, Best Animated Short Film and Best Visual Effects.

The results show the Disney-Pixar smash hit Up edging out a highly competitive field consisting of Coraline, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Princess and the Frog and The Secret of Kells for the animated feature prize.

In the animated short field, the Wallace & Gromit short A Matter of Loaf and Death came out ahead of French Roast, Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty, The Lady and the Reaper and Logorama.

And in the three-way visual effects race, James Cameron’s Avatar won out over District 9 and Star Trek.

Movie fans around the world will find out how close these results are to the real ones when the 82nd annual Academy Awards are presented Sunday, March 7, at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT) on ABC in the United States.

And if you can’t be near a television that night, make sure to check out Animation Magazine Online and our Twitter feed at www.twitter.com/animag for the latest results.
